He served for many years as a diplomat in Latin American countries, Europe and Asia, and since 1951 was Ecuador's permanent delegate to Unesco. He was later appointed ambassador to Paris and Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1966. He is considered one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century Ecuadorians and one of the most significant Latin American poetry. Cabrera Jorge Andrade died in Quito on November 7, 1978. His first book of poems dating back to 1922 and was published under the title The pond ineffable. The poet is inspired by rural life, love for his country, expressed through lyrical compositions that are present in the most varied experiences, the influences of all kinds which the author experienced, ranging from Romanticism to Symbolism and currents of the avant-garde poetry. But the book stands out by far its formal perfection, the crystal clarity that will feature all the work of Carrera Andrade.
